Michael O’Mara Books has acquired the autobiography of BBC Radio 2 presenter ‘Whispering’ Bob Harris.
Lesley O’Mara, m.d., brokered the deal for world rights from Harris.
The DJ and presenter has been in the music industry for more than 40 years, with stints on BBC Radio 1. He also presented the “Old Grey Whistle Test” on television and is still a presenter on BBC Radio 2.
His autobiography will include never-before-told stories and tales of encounters with stars including John Lennon, Marc Bolan, Robert Plant, Blondie, Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper, Keith Richards, Lou Reed, Queen and more.
O'Mara said: “I grew up listening to Bob and still discover new music through his programmes. When I listened to him on Desert Island Discs last year I was riveted to hear his anecdotes about the fun times he had with many of music’s greatest names, and I realised just how central his role in the British music industry has been and still is.
“Bob’s passion has shaped not only my own listening habits but those of the entire nation. I contacted Bob via his manager straight away to propose we publish him."
Harris said: “I’m very excited to be telling my story, and there’s plenty to tell."
The book will be launched with author events, including appearances at music and literary festivals, and publicity across the national media.
Still Whispering After All These Years will be released on 14th May 2015 as a £20 hardback and as an e-book.
