"Steve Jobs" actor Michael Fassbender has been confirmed to star as Harry Hole in the film adaptation of Scandinavian crime writer Jo Nesbo’s global bestseller and thriller, The Snowman (Vintage).
The film will be directed by Tomas Alfredson ("Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy", "Let the Right One In"), and also stars Rebecca Ferguson ("Mission: Impossible – Rouge Nation") and Charlotte Gainsbourg ("Antichrist", "Independence Day: Resurgence").
The film will begin shooting on 18th January 2016 in Norway and is currently set for cinema release in the US and UK in October 2017.
"The Snowman" will shoot entirely on location in Norway in the cities of Oslo and Bergen and the area of Rjukan.
The film is produced by Tim Becan and Eric Fellner at Working Title Films, alongside film producers Robyn Slovo and Piodor Gustafsson. Author Nesbo, Niclas Salomonsson, Martin Scorsese Tomas Alfredson, Liza Chasin and Amelia Granger serve as executive producers.
The Snowman, first published in 2007, is Nesbo's seventh Harry Hole novel. It features the alcoholic detective tracking a serial killer who is murdering unfaithful women and leaving a snowman behind as a calling card.
Nesbo claimed his first UK Top 50 number one with his 10th in the Harry Hole series, the paperback edition of Police (Vintage), in August 2014 selling 40,000 copies in paperback in eight weeks, on top of nearly 39,000 copies in hardback and an additional 12,076 across other trade editions.
