Borders Group in the US has sold more than 250,000 copies of Stephenie Meyer's new vampire novel, Breaking Dawn, in the 24 hours following its 2nd August release, reports the Wall Street Journal.
Publisher Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, printed 3.2 million copies of the book. Borders hosted more than 900 "midnight" parties for the title, which officially went on sale at 12:01 a.m. Saturday.
The retailer expected that Breaking Dawn was going to be a smash because preorders were second only to each of the final four Harry Potter titles written by J K Rowling.
"We feel this is going to be one of the biggest books of the year for us," said Anne Roman, a Borders spokeswoman. Roman attended a Borders party in Manhattan on Friday evening at the Penn Plaza store that she estimates attracted 1,000 people.
The book is published in the UK today (4th August), also marked with Breaking Dawn parties at retailers around the UK.
