The two Methvens stores at Worthing and Chertsey will reopen tomorrow (2nd April) for a four-day sale, with all stock offered at a 50% discount. A meeting is being held today with the shops' former staff and the administrators; staff, who were not paid their March salaries, have complained of being "kept in the dark".
ArgentVive, the company formerly known as SameDayBooks and owner of the two Methvens stores went into administration on 23rd March. However, both shops will now open tomorrow for four days, the stores will then close and re-open the following Thursday for a further four-day sale and will be assessed on a weekly basis.
Paul Appleton, joint administrator at David Rubin & Partners, said: "We are doing this in order to sell the stock and showcase the bookstore to potential buyers. All serious enquiries regarding the purchase of ArgentVive are being dealt with by the administrators and their agents. It is the intention to sell the business as a whole entity or, alternatively, seek best offers for the various parts of the business."
The 'Save Methvens Worthing' facebook group now has more than 470 members.
