Michael Joseph has signed a two-book deal with Instagram star John Clark, also known as The Meal Prep King, after his weight loss story went viral.
Ione Walder, Michael Joseph’s editorial director for cookery, acquired world rights to The Meal Prep King Cookbook and one other title from Charlie Brotherstone at BCM agency. The Meal Prep King Cookbook will be published in hardback on 28th May 2020, priced £20.
Clark and his partner Charlotte Deniz have lost more than 15 stone between them by managing their food consumption through batch cooking and advanced meal prep, known as Meal Prep Sundays. Their weight loss story went viral following an interview they gave to The Sun, which led to widespread coverage across newspapers and online news sites, and a visit from BBC’s The One Show, as their Instagram following jumped from 11,000 to 100,000 overnight.
"Following in John and Charlotte’s meal-prepping footsteps will give readers a simple and adaptable way to cut down on calories while still eating the food they love, with favourites like piri-piri chicken, Chinese-style pork, Korean beef noodles, breakfast yoghurt jars, burrito bowls, Thai curry and much more," reads the synopsis. "The book will be a step-by-step guide to achievable weight-loss and an organised hassle-free kitchen, with 80 recipes for breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks, plus a 21-day meal plan, calorie guidance, and loads of useful advice about how to store, freeze and reheat your meals."
Clark said: "The word ‘diet’ suggests a temporary plan that comes to an end, when in truth it's a lifestyle change that many people need. I’m writing this book to help people make that change to sustain a healthier happier life, and to show that anyone can achieve the same results as Charlotte and myself. I am absolutely honoured to be working with Michael Joseph to create books that people can use and rely on for many years to come."
Walder added: "John’s books will be a breath of fresh air for anyone who wants to get organised in the kitchen and/or lose weight in a sustainable way while still eating knockout food. His batch cooking approach lets his followers take control of how they eat, while also saving themselves time and money. It makes great sense on so many fronts and we’re beyond excited to work with John and help him put meal-prepping firmly on the map!"
