McGraw-Hill Education has unveiled its SmartBook, a new adaptive e-book programme that acts like a virtual teacher, adapting the reading experience to suit each students' ability and guiding them through the text.
The US company showed off the new product at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this week, with plans to release the SmartBooks programmes at prices starting at $19.99 for about 90 courses in spring 2013.
The programme is available for PCs, Macs, as well as iOS and Android devices, with the content structured like a textbook but with the programme coaching the student on how to read the material and quizzing them on different concepts as they move through each section. Depending on their responses, they are then guided to different highlighted passages in the text.
President of McGraw-Hill Education Brian Kibby said: "To revolutionise learning, you need to revolutionise reading. We're focused on attacking graduation rates and getting results."
