Sphere non-fiction has acquired My Scotland, by crime writer Val McDermid in collaboration with photographer Alan McCreadie.
Little, Brown publisher Adam Strange bought world rights from agent Jane Gregory and will publish in hardback in June 2019.
Strange said: "I’ve been a big fan of Val’s writing for years, so when she approached us with the idea I leapt at the chance to work with her – her novels give an exceptionally clear sense of place, and a book that allows readers to see those locations in living form will be one for fans to treasure, and a treat for anyone with a fondness for the country as a whole. The book delivers a fascinating insight into how the landscapes Val has inhabited throughout her life now inhabit her writing, and it does so with the author’s characteristic wit and verve."
McDermid said: "Revisiting the places I've chosen to write about over the years has been a journey of memory as well as geography. It's been a rare opportunity to pause and look back at some of the places and events that shaped me both as a person and as a writer. I hope readers will enjoy sharing that trip."
McDermid’s fiction is also published by Little, Brown and Sphere.
