Maxwell sells Caxton

Caxton Publishing Group sales director Finbarr McCabe has acquired the discount and remainder publisher from Caxton chairman John Maxwell. McCabe bought the company for "a very advantageous price" from Maxwell and his partner Terry Price. The group includes Chaucer Press, Mercury Books and
Mercury Junior, and its latest accounts show a turnover of £4.5m.

Maxwell, a publishing veteran of 42 years, had not been involved in day-to-day operations of Caxton for the past two years owing to illness. He formed Caxton in 1999. Mind, body and spirit publisher Watkins Books, which had been part of the group, will remain in Maxwell’s control.
