Black & White Publishing has acquired a "masterful tale" of three cities: Venice, London and New York, by Victoria Blake.
Simon Burke, commissioning editor at Black & White, bought UK and British Commonwealth (including Canada) rights to Titian’s Boatman from the Teresa Chris Literary Agency.
Inspired by Blake's love of the famous Titian painting, The Man with the Blue Sleeve – exhibited in the National Portrait Gallery in London – Titian’s Boatman is a masterful tale of three cities: Renaissance Venice and contemporary London and New York, and a story of people whose lives are changed forever by Titian's paintings.
Burke, who joined Black & White in 2015, said: "I am absolutely delighted that Titian's Boatman is my first acquisition for Black & White. This is a novel that's as beautifully written and compelling as anything I've read in a long while".
Blake, who is the daughter of historian Lord Robert Blake, is also the author of the Oxford-based crime series featuring PI Sam Falconer, published by Orion.
She said: "Every writer wants their book to be published with imagination and flair so I feel incredibly lucky that Titian's Boatman is in the hands of a team as inspiring and dynamic as that at Black & White."
Titian’s Boatman will be published in hardback in January 2017.
