Kobo has hired former Waterstones digital content acquisitions manager Diego Marano to head up its self-publishing platform in the UK.
Marano, who previously worked in publishing, including for John Wiley, will now take on the role of Kobo Writing Life manager in the UK.
Kobo Writing Life global director Mark Lefebvre told The Bookseller: “Diego’s experience and aptitude provide just the right combination of an understanding of the business, the technical requirements and the authors he will be assisting in their Kobo Writing Life experience. He is charming, friendly and has an ‘author-centric’ approach that we are certain our KWL authors will appreciate”.
Since its launch in July of last year, Kobo Writing Life has attracted more than 17,600 authors who have published more than 100,000 titles available in 184 countries and in 54 languages, according to the company.
Sales from the platform represent more than 10% of the company’s unit sales in its first year of launch.
