Alexandra Maramenides is leaving the Bonnier Group to join Simon & Schuster UK as managing director of its Children’s Publishing Division.
Reporting to Ian Chapman, c.e.o and publisher Maramenides will take responsibility for the strategic direction of the children’s division, building the creative focus of the list and looking for commercial opportunities to grow the business, while working closely with Simon & Schuster’s international teams on global titles and projects. Maramenides will also join the UK S&S board.
She joins the company after Ingrid Selberg left the position of m.d of Simon & Schuster’s Children’s Division last December after being in the post for 11 years.
Chapman said: “Our children’s division has shown significant growth in recent years, cementing a reputation for high quality publishing with a distinctive and ambitious list. With her wealth of global experience and forward-thinking approach, Alexandra will undoubtedly help us continue that success in a buoyant children’s market.”
Maramenides added: “I am thrilled to be joining Simon & Schuster. I have such respect and admiration for this dynamic business, the talented people and successful publishing lists, and I am thoroughly looking forward to being part of it again in the New Year.”
Maramenides was managing director of Echo Publishing (formed in March 2015) and The Five Mile Press for Bonnier Publishing in Australia. Prior to this, she worked in a number of high-profile positions for leading publishers including Phaidon, The Watts Publishing Group (now part of Hachette) and Simon & Schuster UK. In her career she helped to establish major partnerships with businesses such as DreamWorks, worked with brands including Sesame Street and Mattel, worked on projects with authors and illustrators including Lauren Child and Ben Cort, and built new talent including Jedda Robaard and Natalie Marshall.
Maramenides starts in her new role in February 2016.
