Five libraries are to close as part of Manchester City Council's cutbacks, which will see 2,000 jobs cut in all, the BBC reports.
Libraries in Miles Platting, East City in Openshaw, Rackhouse in Wythenshawe and Barlow Moor in Chorlton are among those earmarked for the axe as part of the council's plan to make £110m savings in the next financial year. Leisure centres, care homes for the elderly and children's services will all also see cutbacks.
Manchester City Council leader Sir Richard Leese described the cuts process as "unpalatable".
The announcement takes the total number of library buildings threatened with closure to 431, with 59 mobiles also set to go.
