Man Booker Prize launches podcast

The Man Booker Prize has launched a new podcast, hosted by "Radio 2 Book Club" producer Joe Haddow.

The podcast will focus on the prize’s tagline – Fiction at its Finest – and “looks at the very best from the world of books”.

There will be seven fortnightly episodes going out on alternate Friday mornings from today (24th July).

Haddow will “guide listeners through the prize with a behind-the-scenes tour – from the magnificent backlist to the much anticipated longlist and shortlist announcements, right through to the big day” when the 2015 winner will be revealed on 13th October.

In episode one, Haddow talks to Viv Groskop about her love of Richard Flanagan’s 2014 Man Booker Prize winner The Narrow Road to the Deep North (Chatto & Windus),and he will also discuss what it is like to whittle down more than 100 books to the Man Booker dozen with former judge and author, Louise Doughty.

Other highlights include Flanagan’s reaction to winning last year’s award and “an inside look at the big books story of the moment”, the publication of Harper Lee’s Go Set a Watchman (William Heinemann).

In future episodes there will be interviews with well-known literary figures, industry experts, past Man Booker Prize winners and “some surprise star guests, all of whom share a love of books”.

The first episode is now available on iTunes and SoundCloud.

The 2015 longlist will be announced on 29th July, the shortlist on 15th September and the winner on 13th October.
