Novelist Gemma Malley has been appointed as Booktrust’s new director of communications.
Malley has previously led communications and marketing at Ofsted, the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and Universities UK, and is the author of the YA Declaration series for Bloomsbury Children's.
In her new role, she will be in charge of developing Booktrust's communications, public affairs and marketing strategy as it prepares for a brand re-launch and new digital communications strategy.
Booktrust chief executive Viv Bird said: “Gemma is passionate about reading and the life-changing benefits it brings. She brings great communications and management experience having worked at Ofsted. We recognised Gemma’s ability to help build on our strengths, to lead the implementation of a corporate rebranding project and to develop our digital transformation strategy.”
Malley said she was "incredibly excited" about her new role.“Instilling a love of reading transforms lives: it enables social mobility, improves confidence, and enables children to communicate as well as developing their creativity. I cannot wait to really build Booktrust’s profile further, ensuring that every child in the UK is encouraged and supported to read,” she said.
