Maisie Shearring, the young British illustrator who picked a $30,000 award at the Bologna Book Fair, has shared some of her work with The Bookseller.
Shearring won the Fundación SM International Award for Illustration for her illustrations from her comic Susan's School Days, which were on display at the fair.
“I am over the moon to the win the award,” she said. “It was such a shock, especially after seeing all the other amazing work in the Exhibition. The character in the story, Susan, is my mum, so that made winning the prize somehow seem even more special.”
Shearring won prize money of $30,000(£20,197) and a contract to illustrate a book for Spanish publisher SM Group.
