Mainstream plans e-book series for Carlo

Mainstream author Philip Carlo has died after suffering from muscle-atrophying disease ALS. The publisher will be launching an e-book programme led by Carlo's books early in the new year.

Carlo's final work, The Killer Within—In the Company of Monsters, detailed his attempts to come to terms with the illness while continuing to write. He had written four books published by Mainstream, all non-fiction works on mass murderers. He was represented in the UK by Abner Stein.

Bill Campbell, Mainstream joint m.d. and publisher, said: "Philip's death, though not unexpected, came as a major blow to all who were in contact with him. His continued fight against this dreadful disease represented a triumph of spirit shown by the fact that he continued to write as his health deteriorated. When he died he was working on his latest book The Prince of Cocaine, scheduled for publication by Mainstream in July next year."

Carlo died in New York on 8th November.
