Mainstream is to produce a spin-off guide to Dan Brown's new book within days of its publication.
Decoding The Lost Symbol by Simon Cox will be published "approximately two weeks” after Dan Brown's novel, The Lost Symbol, appears on 15th September, even though the content of the latest Brown offering remains almost entirely under wraps.
Cox's guide to The Da Vinci Code, Cracking The Da Vinci Code, has sold nearly 60,000 copies through Nielsen BookScan since publication in April 2004.
Mainstream said Cox has made an "educated guess” based on "cryptic comments” made by Brown that the new book will take the reader "inside the secret societies of the Freemasons and the Rosicrucians” and include historical figures such as the United States Founding Fathers and the Confederate soldier Albert Pike.
Mainstream rights director Fiona Brownlee said the publisher would not be getting any early information on The Lost Symbol despite its relationship with Brown's publisher Random House, which owns a 50% stake in Mainstream.
Mainstream first announced that Cox would write a companion to the new Dan Brown novel four years ago and rights to the book have already been sold in 18 languages.
