Magzter, an online store front for digital magazines, is to launch an e-book store with a planned beta version rolling out in July. The business has hired three new executives ahead of the push, including Marzia Ghiselli, former business development director at The Bookseller.
Magzter was founded by Vijayakumar Radhakrishnan and Girish Ramdas in 2011, and now has offices in India, London and New York. It claims 10 million global users, including seven million in Asia, two million in the US and one million in the UK. It hosts more than 1,500 magazines from 600 publishers, and most recently signed magazine giant Hearst to its platform. Publishers pay no upfront fees and are offered a 50/50 revenue split by Magzter.
The company markets the digital magazines off its website, and also via apps on Android, iOS, and Windows 8.
The company has hired Aaron Wall as director of strategic alliances, Ghiselli as director of content acquisition in the UK, and Xavier Calloc'h as content acquisition consultant in France.
