Business magnate Ron Burkle has doubled his stake in US book chain Barnes & Noble to nearly 17%, through his investment company Yucaipa, Reuters">http://www.reuters.com/article/companyNewsAndPR/idUSN1348217720091113">R... reports.
The stake has been added to since January, when he held 8.3% of the shares. He now owns 16.8%.
According to a regulatory filing, made on Friday, Burkle also called for better corporate governance at the company.
"The reporting persons are concerned with the adequacy and enforcement of the company's corporate governance policies and practices, as evidenced in part by the recent acquisition of Barnes & Noble College Booksellers Inc," the filing said.
It said the parties intend to closely monitor Barnes & Noble's performance and communicate their views to the company's board, management and shareholders.
