Macmillan US has settled the consumer class action case over alleged e-book price-fixing, having also become the final publisher to settle with the US Department of Justice on Friday [8th February].
The class action case, led by law firm Hagens Berman, continues against Penguin and Apple. In a proposed settlement, Macmillan has agreed to pay up to $20m to settle the case, bringing the total settlement, combining payments from Hachette, HarperCollins and Simon & Schuster as well as Macmillan and additional payments, to more than $70m, according to reports.
The consumer class action case was filed in summer 2011, representing consumers and arguing that five of the leading US publishers, as well as Apple, worked together to fix e-book prices.
