Lonely Planet goes for Gold

<p>Lonely Planet has promoted Shona Gold from marketing director to marketing and sales director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).<br /><br />As well as responsibility for marketing across print and online, Gold will oversee print sales function in Europe and Lonely Planet&#39;s online shop. UK, EMEA, trade sales, e-commerce, media, research, consumer and trade marketing managers will report to her and Gold will report directly to LP m.d. Douglas Schatz. <br /><br />Schatz said: &quot;Gold brings strong brand marketing skills and an exceptional knowledge of the travel publishing market. I look forward to working with her in this pivotal role as we rapidly move from a travel guidebook publisher to a multimedia travel services provider.&quot;<br /> <br />Gold joined the travel publisher in 2006 and has since led the marketing strategy for the brand in the European market. <br /><br />Gold said she was &quot;excited&quot; about her new role. She added: &quot;A key area of focus for the next three to five years will be increasing brand usage and digital engagement by growing audiences from core independent travellers to a wider psychographic target. </p><p>&quot;We will continue to grow our all important print revenues while changing perceptions of Lonely Planet as we transform into a cross-media organisation.&quot;<br /> </p>
