Little Island Books has acquired Meg Grehan's YA novel in verse Baby Teeth, a study in queer desire and identity.
The synopsis reads: "A poetic study in passion that uses the tropes of vampire fiction to explore queer identity and desire, Baby Teeth is a unique, lyrical and fresh take on vampire lore, that will surprise, charm and disarm the reader."
Matthew Parkinson-Bennett, publisher, acquired world rights directly from the author, with publication slated for 2nd September 2021.
Parkinson-Bennett commented: "We were stunned by Meg’s manuscript and the verdict at Little Island was unanimous and emphatic: we have to publish this book! Meg is such a thrillingly talented writer on the rise, and we hope Baby Teeth brings her a lot of new readers."
Grehan said: "I'm over the moon to be working with Little Island. I've had the most wonderful experiences working with them on my first two books and I'm so excited to be working with them again. Like so many others, my mental health has suffered during the pandemic but writing this book helped me so much and gave me something to channel it all into. I'm very proud of Baby Teeth and can't wait for release in September!"
Little Island Books published Grehan's first two books, The Space Between and The Deepest Breath in 2017 and 2019 respectively.
