Little, Brown has signed up a controversial new book which argues that the concept of post-traumatic stress disorder should be abandoned. Anne Lawrance of Piatkus at Little, Brown bought UK & Commonwealth (excluding Canada), with Europe exclusive rights from Lara Heimert at Basic Books in the US.
When Stuff Happens: The New Psychology of Living with Change by Stephen Joseph will be published in Spring 2011.
Joseph has worked with survivors of trauma for the last 20 years and has found that in many cases, traumatic events can act as a catalyst for positive change in up to 90% of sufferers. The book will explore how people have an innate ability for growth and can nurture it to find new meaning, purpose and direction in life.
