Little, Brown has bought a new book by Gillian Tett, who was one of its bestselling authors with 2009's Fool's Gold, written about the banking crisis.
The new book, which is not yet titled, will see Tett expand her coverage from the financial world to a broader current affairs theme. It will look at how organisations are increasingly working in specialist groups "that do not have an eye on the bigger picture", and the effect this disjointedness has on society as a whole.
Tim Whiting, publishing director of non-fiction at Little, Brown, bought UK and Commonwealth rights from Karolina Sutton at ICM/Curtis Brown. L,B plans to publish the title in hardback and simultaneous trade paperback in 2013.
"This promises to be a highly influential book that takes Gillian into the area of the market occupied by Malcolm Gladwell's books and Freakonomics and Superfreakonomics," said Whiting.
