Transworld is repackaging Kate Atkinson’s backlist to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the publication of Behind the Scenes at the Museum, as well as the release of her latest novel, A God in Ruins (May, £20).
All of Atkinson’s backlist, including the Jackson Brodie series, will be repackaged in a consistent style, designed in-house at Transworld. The new look was inspired by the paperback cover of Life After Life, which was created by Canadian designer Kelly Hill.
Marianne Velmans, publishing director at Transworld imprint Doubleday, said: “The success of Life After Life and the anticipation for A God in Ruins has focused attention on the riches of Kate Atkinson’s backlist.”
Behind the Scenes at the Musuem was published on 2nd March 1995; that year it won the Whitbread Book of the Year—now known as the Costa.
The novel has since sold 270,935 copies across three print editions, according to Nielsen BookScan data, and has been worth £1.8m to UK booksellers.
Velmans said: “I know many people count it as their favourite book but there is a whole legion of fans who have not yet read it. In its playful yet thoughtful and emotionally intense storytelling, it bears an obvious relationship to Life After Life.”
The new Behind the Scenes . . . will include a postscript written exclusively by Atkinson for the publication.
