Library workers strike

<p>More than 150 library workers in the Borough of Wigan went on strike today (3rd April) over threats to abolish higher pay rates for weekend shifts. The proposal follows a move by the council to increase the number of hours the libraries open for at weekends.</p><p>A spokesman for Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust told Wigan Today that the majority of staff would be better off on equal pay under the new contracts.</p><p>Meanwhile in Hampshire, librarians are threatening further strike action in protest over 27 job cuts and pay cuts of around &pound;4,500 to a further 17 staff--to make savin...
