The number of libraries participating in the Richard & Judy Book Club has fallen by 8% according to the Reading Agency. Miranda McKearney, director of the Reading Agency, said: "We are worried by anecdotal evidence that some authorities don’t feel able to continue to do [Richard & Judy], and the impact may come through more strongly when PLR announce the figures for 2008 in autumn 2009. It’s not a major worry yet, but the number of libraries participating in the Book Club through The Reading Agency fell by 8% in 2008 compared to 2007."
She continued: "More cheeringly the number of libraries participating in the Summer Reads through The Reading Agency increased by 3% in 2008 compared to 2007."
McKearney added: "The Reading Agency will be continuing to work alongside the broadcasters, publishers, retailers and national newspapers to continue to maximize the impact of the R & J brand which results in more people reading more."
