The Big Green Bookshop in Wood Green, London, is to have its own "writer in residence".
Author Ellie Levenson will be "in residence" on Tuesday mornings from 12th April, running workshops for writers and offering any advice they need. Simon Key, co-owner of the bookshop, said: “This residency will be a wonderful opportunity for writers of any level to get honest, realistic and valuable advice from a published author, so please feel free to drop in and say hello.”
Levenson has written for the Guardian and the New Statesman and is a lecturer in journalism at Goldsmith's College. Her first book The Noughtie Girl's Guide to Feminism was published in 2009 and more recently she has written 50 Campaigns to Shout About.
Key, who is also holding a self-publishing workshop at the bookshop in May, added: “There is so much talent around that people just don’t know what to do with it at the moment so it is worth supporting writers.”
Levenson said: "I'm so excited to be the Big Green Bookshop's first writer in residence. Not only is it a brilliant bookshop but also a real community hub. My daughter and I love the singing and storytime sessions, my parents have come with to their quizzes and I can't wait to go to one of their comedy nights soon. I hope to produce a couple of publishable pieces of work while there and have no doubt I'll be inspired by the shop, the owners, the customers and the surroundings."
