Millie Lean is joining YMU Books as junior literary agent, specialising in children’s publishing.
Lean moves from her editorial position at Penguin Random House to join the recently launched literary division.
She has worked across a wide range of children’s genres and formats during her time at Penguin Random House. Commissioning Amy Forbes Robertson and Alex Fryer, and working with high-profile authors including Fearne Cotton and Naomi Klein, among others, she has "gained a wide range of editorial and publishing experience", YMU said. She was also the editorial lead on Penguin Random House’s partnership with Wattpad Books and worked on children’s brands including Roald Dahl and Jacqueline Wilson.
Amanda Harris, m.d. of YMU Books, said: “We are thrilled Millie is joining the YMU Books team. As their Penguin Random House editor, our clients have experienced Millie’s exceptional talent and author care, and we are excited to see Millie’s expertise and passion for children’s publishing add to our agency’s promise. Her creative drive, her list-building ambitions, and her desire to help our clients create projects that encourage more children to read more, make her the perfect children’s publishing lead for YMU Books.
"I can’t wait to see how Millie amplifies our clients’ stories and turns their sparkling jewels of original and exciting ideas into stellar children’s projects.”
Lean said: “It’s been an immense privilege to work at Penguin Random House UK on some of the greatest authors and brands in children’s and Young Adult books of the last century. I’ve learnt from industry shaping colleagues and worked with fabulously talented authors.”
She added: “As an editor who has worked directly with Amanda, I’ve seen first-hand the trailblazing agency that she has created—of which I am so thrilled to join. YMU Books is a leading and powerful presence in the children's book market, with a slew of bestsellers from elite talent who are publishing outstanding books and sparking children's imagination through reading. I'm delighted to join Amanda’s team and relish the opportunity to bring my experience and ideas to YMU Books, to help shape the future of their incredible list.”
