Little, Brown has acquired a memoir by Stuart David, founding member of the indie pop band Belle & Sebastian, well-known for songs including "The Boy With the Arab Strap" and "I'm a Cuckoo".
Editor-in-chief Antonia Hodgson bought world English language rights from Joanna Swainson at Hardman & Swainson in the autobiography, In the All-Night Cafe. Little, Brown plans to publish the title under the Abacus imprint in spring 2015.
The memoir charts the story of Belle & Sebastian from the fortuitous meeting of Stuart Murdoch and Stuart David on a course for unemployed musicians in Glasgow, through their adventures in two early incarnations of Belle & Sebastian, culminating in the recording of the band's debut album, Tigermilk.
Hodgson said: "The proposal for In the All-Night Cafe is wonderful—evocative, smartly observed and brimming with warmth and wit. It's a fascinating, intimate account of the band's early years that also has a lot to say about creativity, persistence and friendship."
