Laurence King Publishing will tomorrow (30th September) launch a children’s list of illustrated non-fiction and activity books.
The list launches with Pierre the Maze Detective: The Search for the Stolen Maze Stone (h/b, £14.95), which is an illustrated book of mazes for children aged eight and over. Created by Hiro Kamigaki and IC4Design, the book features 15 full-spreads of illustrated mazes and is out now.
Also out now is The Superhero Comic Kit by Jason Ford, which features 10 eight-page comics for readers to fill in and complete, Little Houses: A Counting Book by papercut artist Helen Musselwhite and My Crazy Inventions Sketchbook by Andrew Rae and Lisa Regan. Make & Move: Animals/Make & Move: Robots by paper engineer Sato Hisao will be released in spring 2016.
Elizabeth Jenner, children’s commissioning editor, said: “Every book we publish should feel special and unique for all the family, perhaps treating a familiar subject in an exciting, fresh way, encouraging creative activities, or simply taking the reader on a journey into new and entrancing worlds created by the talented illustrators on our list.”
Publisher Laurence King added: “The children’s books that we are proud to publish this season represent not only our uncompromising belief that children deserve leading design, production and content, but also that they have a huge amount to teach us grown-ups about making beautiful things.
“They encourage us to re discover a sense of play and a belief that anything is possible. It is with this spirit that we approach everything else that we do. Each book and gift in our Autumn list represents a unique set of creative challenges… every book is an adventure and one that we are delighted and honoured to be a part of.”
The list will officially launch at a panel event at Foyles, Charing Cross with several of the illustrators involved in creating the new titles, including Marion Deuchars, Andrew Rae, Jason Ford and Hiro Kamigaki.
