David Lagercrantz has been contracted to write two more novels in the late Stieg Larsson's Millennium series.
The Girl in the Spider's Web, Lagercrantz's sequel to Larsson's three original Millennium books - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, and The Girl who Kicked the Hornets' Nest - was released in August this year.
Lagercrantz said: "This is something I just cannot resist. It was a tremendous joy to write The Girl in the Spider’s Web, and such a breathtaking adventure. Furthermore I believe that I have a really good story for a continuation."
Larsson's brother and the manager of his estate, Joakim Larsson, said: "The response from readers has been overwhelmingly positive, all over the world. We are happy and grateful that David Lagercrantz has carried on the universe and the characters that Stieg created. Now we are anticipating with excitement how he will continue the story."
The fifth novel will be published in 2017, and the sixth book tentatively in 2019, both by Norstedts Publishing House, Sweden, by agreement with Hedlund Agency. In the UK Larsson's novels and Lagercrantz's sequel are published by MacLehose Press, part of Quercus. MacLehose Press will publish the two forthcoming novels in the UK.
Larsson’s books have sold 82m copies worldwide, said Quercus. The UK edition of The Girl in the Spider's Web has sold more than 400,000 copies according to Quercus.
