The Lady in running for Reader's Digest UK

<p>The owner of the <em>Lady</em>, the 125 year-old weekly for gentlewomen, is understood to be working on a bid to acquire the assets of Reader&#39;s Digest UK. However, insiders at the<em> Lady</em> spoken to by <em>The Bookseller</em> poured cold-water on the suggestions, raising doubts over whether financing would be available for such a deal.</p><p>According to the <em>Guardian</em> piece, the Budworth family, which has owned and published the Lady since it was founded by Thomas Gibson Bowles in 1885, are &quot;seriously considering making a bid&quot; for the title, which was put into administration by its US parent company, Reader&#39;s Digest Association, last month. The deadline for bids is understood to be this week. The administrator refused to comment.<br /></p>
