Kobo will launch in Japan later this month, selling the Kobo Touch for ¥7,980 (£65).
The Bookseller has previously reported that Japan would be the next country Kobo would launch in. Today (2nd July) the e-tailer announced its Japanese parent company Rakuten is now offering pre-orders of the Kobo Touch from its website.
Kobo said it will launch a “a fully localised Japanese experience at http://kobo.rakuten.co.jp, with local currency, and popular Japanese content and authors” on 19th July.
With the support of Rakuten, Kobo will offer novels, essays, business and comic books. By the year end, the company said exclusive content will also be available to its Japanese customers through the Kobo store.
Last week, Amazon revealed it would soon launch in Japan on a holding page on website Amazon.co.jp with official Kindle branding, saying “the world’s bestselling e-reader” will be “coming soon”.
