King given new S&S contracts role

Suzanne King will join Simon & Schuster UK in the newly created role of contracts manager which will see author contracts brought in-house at the publisher.

The move follows the merger of the publisher’s adult and children's rights team within its commercial division earlier in the year.

King will join the company at the end of July and report to report to commercial director Russell Evans.

King began her publishing career in 2004 in the contracts department at Penguin, where she worked her way up to senior contracts executive, before moving over to Walker Books in 2008. As senior business affairs and sub-rights compliance manager, she has been overseeing the compliance function at Walker as well as the contracts functions for Walker and Walker Books Australia.

Evans said the role was a “crucial new position” for the company. “Our industry continually evolves, with new opportunities for digital content, acquisitions and IP. This is a key, integral role supporting our authors and our business. Suzanne will be a great addition to Simon & Schuster, bringing with her a wealth of knowledge and experience in this complex arena, and an abundance of energy.”

King added: “I am incredibly excited to be joining the team at Simon & Schuster. Being tasked with establishing the in-house contracts function for one of the most dynamic publishing houses in the business is a tremendous opportunity.
