Weidenfeld & Nicolson editor Jennifer Kerslake will join Curtis Brown Creative in September as senior manager for courses and operations.
Her last day at the Orion imprint is 23rd August and she will join the literary agency's writing course academy on 2nd September, in the newly created role. Orion is currently recruiting for her replacement.
Kerslake first joined Orion in 2012 as an editorial graduate trainee before doing a stint at Pan Macmillan and then returning to Orion in 2014. In her time at Weidenfeld & Nicolson, Kerslake has published books by authors such as Costa-shortlisted Elisa Lodato, Stella Prize-winning Heather Rose, Leila Aboulela, Francesca Jakobi, Chloë Mayer and Shannon Leone Fowler, and the forthcoming debut novel from Haleh Agar, as well as working on the estates of Elmore Leonard, Sven Hassell and Dylan Thomas. She also launched Hometown Tales, W&N’s series of short books on regions in the UK.
Kerslake said: “I have loved my time at W&N and will miss its wonderful team and talented authors immensely. I am however delighted to be joining Curtis Brown Creative, whose programme of courses I have long admired for their creative ambition and practical rigour. Many students have gone on to publish bestselling and award-winning books, and I am looking forward to supporting the new cohort in September as they set out on their writing journeys.”
Curtis Brown Creative Ltd is the writing school affiliated to the Curtis Brown and C&W Literary agencies, running creative writing courses in London and online. It launched eight years ago and it taught by authors with contributions from the Curtis Brown and C&W literary agents, major authors and leading publishers. Apparently 69 former students have gained commercial publishing deals including Jessie Burton of The Miniaturist and Kate Hamer, author of The Girl in the Red Coat (Faber).
Curtis Brown Creative m.d. Anna Davis said Kerslake's newly created role as senior manager for courses and operations is representative of the writing school's expansion. She added: “I’m thrilled to welcome Jennifer to the Curtis Brown Creative team. Our students will benefit hugely from her editorial and publishing experience, and I’m sure she’s going to play an important role as we expand and offer more opportunities to writers.”
