Hodder & Stoughton has acquired a memoir by former Liverpool striker and manager Kenny Dalglish, which will be published this autumn in hardback.
Consultant editor Roddy Bloomfield bought world rights to My Liverpool Home—Then and Now for an undisclosed sum via agent Humfrey Hunter of Hunter Profiles. Sports journalist Henry Winter will co-write the book with Dalglish.
Bloomfield, who worked with Dalglish on his previous book Dalglish: My Autobiography in 1996, also co-written with Winter, said the new title would look at his time as a player and as manager. Dalglish led Liverpool FC to the double (League and FA Cup) in 1986 but also witnessed the Heysel stadium disaster of 1985, in which 39 people died, and the 1989 Hillsborough disaster, when 96 were killed.
His experiences were so traumatic in view of those dreadful catastrophes Kenny didn’t want to talk about them in the previous book—it was too soon and he didn’t feel up to it. But now he has got to the point where he can talk," Bloomfield explained.
The book will also look at Dalglish’s current work with the football club, which "never recovered" from his resignation following the disasters.
As well as helping the academy for young Liverpool players, Dalglish "has the ear " of manager Rafa Benitez and frequently acts as an ambassador for the club internationally.
"In truth, Dalglish never really left Liverpool Football Club—his heart was always at Anfield. It still is," added Bloomfield.
Hodder will publish on 16th September.
