Judy Piatkus takes Pandora Award

<p>This year's Women in Publishing Pandora award has gone to Judy Piatkus, founder of Piatkus Books and columnist for The Bookseller. The award is given to individuals or organisations promoting women's involvement in the book industry.

Piatkus said that when she launched her company it had not occurred to her that gender could be an issue. "Although very few women were running their own publishing companies at that time, I had not expected to encounter any problems. Only years later, when I attended a course on gender issues, did I realise that being a woman can be a problem in business."
