John Smith sold to rival

<p>Scottish bookseller John Smith&amp;Son is to be sold, ending 251 years as an independent retailer. The Glasgow-based academic bookshop chain and library supplier is to be acquired by rival library supplier Coutts Information Services. Willie Anderson, John Smith chairman and managing director, confirmed that he was in "the final stages of negotiation" with Coutts.
