Jo Heygate has been promoted to the role of bookshop manager at Pages of Hackney.
Heygate has been working at the bookshop since 2014 and her promotion comes after two years of "record breaking" increases in turnover, the shop's owner Eleanor Lowenthal said. She will continue to oversee the shop's regular service running bookstalls at multiple events across London, as well as stock buying, event programming, and day-to-day running of the shop. She will also oversee a commitment to community relations, such as planning workshops and storytelling for local schools.
Lowenthal said: “I am delighted about Jo's promotion. She is a natural bookseller - friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable and she's grown into this role, making a significant difference to our turnover since she started. Jo has an obvious love of bookselling, and her experience in the publishing industry has brought a new energy to how we operate. I know the shop will continue to flourish under her guidance."
Heygate added: “It’s a privilege to be managing what has always been my favourite bookshop in Hackney. I value being part of the community here and I believe that the shop should be a local hub where we always aim to connect our customers in a personal way with the books we stock- I'm always heartened at the amount we hand-sell and that our recommendations are trusted. It's also a real pleasure to program author events."
