Prize-winning sports writer Duncan Hamilton has moved his attention from bats, balls and football managers to pen the story of a 19th-century jewel heist.
Century publishing director Ben Dunn acquired UK and Commonwealth rights to The Unreliable Life of Harry the Valet from Grainne Fox at Fletcher & Company. Dunn worked with Hamilton on the William Hill prizewinning title, Provided You Don’t Kiss Me at Fourth Estate.
The book details the life of the most notorious jewel thief of Victorian times, who lived the London high life, committing extravagant thefts and using pseudonyms to cover his tracks, but who was finally betrayed by the woman he loved.
Dunn said: “I’m delighted to be working with Duncan again. Once more his incredible talent for observation, attention to detail and great storytelling radiates.” Century will publish in hardback on 5th May.
