Shtum author Jem Lester has signed a two-book deal with Trapeze Books.
Sam Eades, senior commissioning editor at Trapeze struck the deal for UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, with Laura Williams at PFD.
Lester’s latest novel The Mother of Invention will be published in Spring 2018, exploring the relationship between families with, according to Orion, Lester’s "trademark warmth, humour and depth". His debut Shtum was selected for the BBC Radio 2 Simon Mayo Book Club and the Amazon Rising Stars promotion, and will be released in paperback in January 2017.
Eades said: "I’m delighted to be publishing Jem’s next two books on the Trapeze imprint and the paperback launch of Shtum. Publishing Shtum was a team effort, and both Jem and Laura feel like family. He is an amazing talent, and instinctively knows how to connect with readers with unforgettable characters and authentic writing. We look forward to his long and exciting career at Orion."
Williams said: "Working with the whole team at Orion on Jem's debut novel was a joy. I'm so pleased that after brilliant hardback sales for Shtum Jem’s next two novels will be published on the exciting new Trapeze list."
Lester added: "I’m so excited to be writing two more books for Orion, where the passion and support for Shtum was extraordinary. It also means that I get to work closely with Sam Eades going forward, with her infectious energy and enthusiasm. This is a dream outcome for me after an amazing year."
