January sales see prices slashed

<p>Fiona Fraser</p><p>The books price battle has reached a new ferocity post-Christmas, with Waterstone's, W H Smith and Amazon offering January discounts of up to 70%.</p><p>The average selling price of Sharon Osbourne's Extreme (r.r.p. &#163;18.99), which took Nielsen BookScan's top spot in the week to 31st December, fell to &#163;7.19 as the Boxing Day sales took hold.</p><p>Waterstone's increased discounts on many titles promoted heavily before Christmas--selling Extreme, Next to You and Aggressor for just &#163;5.99.
