Illustrated non-fiction publisher David & Charles has promoted James Woollam, former director of e-commerce, to be its new managing director. He replaces Stephen Bateman, who left the business last month.
Last September, it went through a restructure that resulted in around half of its positions being made redundant as it outsourced distribution, wound down its book club operations and rearranged its internal roles. Following a review of the structure last month, Bateman left the company.
Sara Domville, president at parent company F+W Media, said: "James has proven his drive and vision to lead D&C. He will work closely with me and his leadership team to further align D&C to the overall F+W Media media-agnostic, community-based strategy."
Woollam said: "David & Charles has a rich history of serving enthusiasts and over the years we have published into many categories. Now, in our 50th year, many of the values from our past are more important than ever before. Our community focus ensures we continue to put the consumer at the heart of our business and this will be key to our success as we embrace market changes and opportunities."
The publisher celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. It employs around 70 staff.
