iPhone helps drive Apple to record quarter

<p>A sharp increase in iPhone sales has helped Apple to achieve record sales of $26.74bn and a record net quarterly profit of $6bn, according to its latest financial results.</p><p>The technology company also revealed it sold 7.33m iPads during the quarter to 25th December. iPhone sales were up 86% to 16.24m year on year. Sales increased 71% during the period and net profit was up 77.5%. International sales accounted for 62% of the company&#39;s revenue. </p><p>Steve Jobs, the c.e.o. of Apple who went on a second medical leave of absence this week, said: &ldquo;We had a phenomenal holiday quarter with record Mac, iPhone and iPad sales. We are firing on all cylinders and we&rsquo;ve got some exciting things in the pipeline for this year.&rdquo;</p>
