The Independent Publishers Guild will host on 30th June a "meet the developers" session with IC tomorrow, part of the Technology Strategy Board, a Government-backed body that works to promote growth through innovation.
The event will feature presentations from some of the finalists from the ePublishing category of the recent IC tomorrow Digital Innovation Contest which saw 20 consumer trials across creative market sectors including Music, TV/Film, and ePublishing receive £200,000 from the Technology Strategy Board. The presentations will include the streaming audiobooks subscription service Bardowl, text mining innovator Idio with its Remix Your Textbooks concept, educational social gaming solutions provider Curatr and interactive authoring tool Appwalker.
Bridget Shine, executive director of the IPG, said: “Agile independent publishers have the potential to innovate quickly, yet recent BML/Bowker research for NESTA highlighted that they require more information about which technology partners to work with.”
Dr Nick Appleyard, head of digital at the Technology Strategy Board, added: “The publishing business is reaching a critical turning point as e-readers such as the Kindle and the iPad become truly mainstream consumer devices. But finding new successful business models, the right partners to work with and understanding the costs of developing new products and services is hugely challenging, particularly for the smaller publishers.”
Meet the Innovators will take place from 11am to 2pm on 30th June at BMA House, Tavistock Square, London and will be followed by IPG’s annual ‘Meet the Buyers’ session for publishers from 2pm to 6pm.
