Book sales in France were mixed in 2014, falling by 1.4% overall from 2013, and by 3.7% for the largest independents, according to Sebastien Rouault, head of the book department at GfK—a market research firm in Paris. But 2014 was the best year ever for Le Comptoir des Mots bookshop in the east of Paris. “Sales for the year, including December, were the highest achieved
in the 10 years since I opened the shop,” said Renny Aupetit, who is also a founder of the Librest bookseller collective and the online network lalibrairie.com.
