The deadline has been extended for independent bookshops to apply for one of the industry’s most coveted prizes – Independent Bookseller of the Year at the Bookseller Industry Awards.
Indies now have until 5p.m. on Monday 23rd February to submit their entries here to be considered for the award, which is sponsored by Gardners, with the added bonus of a £5,000 cheque for the overall winning bookshop.
Regional winners will be picked from all our submissions, which means indies have the chance to be crowned “the best” in their geographical area–- before going on to be considered for the overall national Independent Bookseller of the Year prize.
The regional shortlist will be unveiled in March, at which point customers are invited to submit their comments in support of their favourite shortlisted bookshop.
Previous winners of the title have included London’s Dulwich Bookshop in 2014, Linghams Bookshop in The Wirral in 2013, The Mainstreet Trading Company, St Boswells in 2012 and Mr B's Emporium of Reading Delights in Bath in 2011. One Tree Books in Hampshire, Simply Books in Bramhall, Cheshire, The Watermill Bookshop, in Aberfeldy, the Scottish Highlands and Jaffe & Neale in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire have also held the Best Independent Bookshop crown.
Entries will be assessed on operational excellence, customers and service, place in the community, the physical shop itself and use of digital.
