Ten indie booksellers from across the UK have won the chance to spend the night in a hotel burning the midnight oil with a limited edition proof of the new Elena Ferrante novel.
Europa Editions will publish The Lying Life of Adults, translated by Ann Goldstein, on 9th June.
To celebrate the forthcoming publication of Ferrante’s first new novel since 2015, Europa Editions launched a competition for independent booksellers through the Independent Alliance newsletter. Independent booksellers from around the UK were invited to enter for a chance to win a night in a Malmaison hotel of their choice, reading a limited edition proof.
Gayle Lazda from LRB; Pauline Giacomelli-Harris from Warwick Books; The Chorleywood Bookshop's Sheryl Shurville; Sue Porter from Linghams Bookshop; Fleur Sinclaire from Sevenoaks Bookshop; James Routledge from Forum Books; Golden Hare Bookshop's Julie Danskin; Jo Coldwell from Red Lion Books; Victoria Rossiter from Rossiter Books and Sandra Foy from Urmston Books are the winners.
Coldwell said: “I am beyond excited about the concept of this as a prize! How very lovely. A grown up sleepover.”
Europa said: "The lucky booksellers will be provided with a welcome hamper and breakfast the next morning. We are asking them to leave the proof behind at checkout time, and hope they will be moved to pen their comments on the title page. We’ll treasure those copies."
