Jonathan Holt has been awarded the inaugural Pat Kavanagh Award, which is presented annually to the most outstanding student on the (MA) Creative Writing at Goldsmiths, University of London.
The award was set up last year by United Agents and Goldsmiths in memory of the agent Kavanagh, who died in October 2008. The awards ceremony was held in December, and was presented by Simon Trewin and Sarah Ballard from United Agents.
Holt said: "This is a huge honour. Thank you United Agents. Now I just hope that when it's finished, my novel can still be mentioned in the same sentence as Pat Kavanagh."
Holt's extract from his work-in-progress novel Remote, Remote! was praised by the judges. Trewin said: "Jonathan is evidently a gifted writer, and it was a great pleasure to find this strong winner in the impressive body of work that we judged'."
